PENDANG, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- The people of Kedah have been urged to enliven National Day celebrations by going to the locations that will be visited by the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2024 convoy in the state.

Pendang district officer Nasrun Mohd Sheriff said the convoy with participants from various government agencies has been in Kedah for four days since yesterday.

“We should be proud to fly the Jalur Gemilang and celebrate Independence Day on Aug 31 every year. So, let us fly the Jalur Gemilang high.

“May the patriotic spirit (shown by the KMJG convoy participants) serve as an example and inspire especially the young to continue flying the Jalur Gemilang and be proud of being free and independent Malaysians,” he said.

He said this at the ceremony to welcome the Kedah-level KMJG 2024 convoy at Pusat Kokurikulum Pendang in Sungai Tiang, which was also attended by Kedah Information Department director Nasrudin Mahmud, here, today.

Nasrun said people should fly the Jalur Gemilang to demonstrate their patriotism and appreciation for the freedom and independence that the country has achieved.

“The meaning of independence holds a great significance for us as Malaysians, and today, we must be grateful for the freedom and independence we enjoy as well as the comfort resulting from the struggles of our past leaders," he said.

The KMJG 2024 convoy started its journey at the Baling Information Department yesterday and is scheduled to be in Jitra this afternoon.

It is expected to be at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Alor Setar, in the afternoon tomorrow and at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pinang Tunggal, Sungai Petani, on Monday before leaving for Penang.
