KOTA KINABALU, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that between 30,000 and 40,000 people are expected to attend the Malaysia Day 2024 celebration at Padang Merdeka here on Sept 16.
He said that preparations are progressing well, with the installation of the tent and stage beginning today, along with final adjustments before the event.
While withholding specifics about the performance's format and concept, he assured that the celebration will be a memorable occasion, designed to enhance the spirit of patriotism and love for the country, among attendees.
“I believe the show will be excellent, highly enjoyable, and, most importantly, will ignite our love and affection for the country. I encourage everyone to attend, but for those unable to be there in person, the celebration will be broadcast live on RTM and social media platforms.
“We are focusing on showcasing Sabah’s local talents, who are not only renowned within Sabah but also resonate with the international community. I’m unable to reveal the specific performances until Sept 16,” he told reporters today.
Earlier, Fahmi visited Padang Merdeka with Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew to review preparations for the celebration.
This morning, Fahmi also paid a courtesy call on the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at Istana Seri Kinabalu, to deliver an official invitation for the Malaysia Day 2024 celebration.
During the meeting, Fahmi said that Tun Juhar provided valuable feedback on various aspects to ensure the celebration is remembered by all Malaysians, which is being incorporated to enhance the event.
“We will promote this event extensively, including installing billboards, distributing posters, and through MADANI communities in Sabah. We encourage everyone, near and far, to join us in celebrating Malaysia Day on Sept 16,” he said.
